Penlan v Neath Athletic 22 September 2018

GREAT FIGHT BACK BY PENLAN BUT A NARROW LOSS AGAINST NEATH ATHLETIC

It was a wet and windy day at Mynydd Newydd for Penlan’s home encounter against Neath Athletic.  Referee Mr.Jonathan Harries from Burry Port got the game underway with Athletic making the kick off.  There were changes to the Penlan line up again this week and the team took the first half to settle down, during which Neath Athletic scored two converted tries and a penalty to give them a healthy 0 – 17 lead at the halfway mark.   Penlan were more organized in the second half and played with resolve to land two converted tries and two penalties to give them 20 points but Neath scored their third try, which went unconverted, to leave the final score at 20 – 22.  For the last 15 minutes of the game Neath Athletic had been camping on Penlan’s goal line but a superb defence managed to prevent the visitor’s gaining more points and held on to Penlan’s losing bonus point.  It was a good team display for Penlan and hopefully they will go from strength to strength.  Next week they are away to Tonmawr who have won three of their games so far.
