Penlan v Brynamman 12th. May 2018

HEAVY DEFEAT AGAINST BRYNAMMAN BUT HEADS HELD HIGH

Brynamman made their highest score of the season, while Penlan suffered their biggest loss at Mynydd Newydd on Saturday.  Still struggling, Penlan saw their numbers further reduced by players working or on holiday.  The players that did turn out for Penlan did their best against a Brynamman team that had already earned promotion and looked strong and sharp.

Within 2 minutes of referee Mike Bulpitt getting the game underway Brynamman scored their first try after some fast passing breached the Penlan defence.  Initially Penlan were able to take the lead at 10 minutes when a fine catch and timely pass by winger Sean Lewis got the ball to forward Adam Glover who powered over with a roll to score.  Outside-half Paul Spowart converted to bring his top point scorer to 53 and put Penlan ahead by 7 – 5.

It was a briefly held lead as at just 3 minutes later a second try from Brynamman put them ahead again. A further 3 tries before half time and 4 conversions gave them an impressive 7 – 38 lead and secured their try score bonus point.

The constant fast passing continued in the second half which saw Brynamman score a total of 9 tries with 8 conversions to give them 61 points.  To their immense credit Penlan never gave up despite the onslaught and at 25 minutes Adam Glover made a run through to power over for a second try to make the score 12 – 61.  Adam’s season total of 7 tries puts him in top scorer place, just ahead of Kurt Velardo.
